How to Live the Bermuda Lifestyle

It’s about this time every year that I want to leave the cold-weather climate once and for all and move to the tropics. I’d love to have the windows open year round, ceiling fans rolling, and the ease of a simpler life. This Bermuda-inspired home, featured in House Beautiful, reminds me of this simpler life. Designers Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of Carrier and Company nailed it with a refreshing, sophisticated, and modern design in this Naples, Florida home. Here’s how to get the look for your own home.

Floor to Ceiling Windows

This living room is exactly how I picture island living. The large floor to ceiling windows and doors are so gorgeous you want to leave them open all the time. The indoor/outdoor living is further enhanced with a ceiling mobile.

This coat hanger is a beautiful design find and would fit perfectly into any island-inspired home. Paint it a bold color in a glossy paint for maximum impact.

Carefree Details

The kitchen is the best place to start in creating a carefree island-inspired home. The kitchen countertops are, of course, Caesarstone, which requires very little maintenance, just a simple wipe down. The bold pops of color are refreshing in contrast to the white cupboards and countertops. The bamboo chairs are a conscious nod to the tropics.

Bold Pops of Color

This home works so well because the designers used the loud, bold colors in the more public spaces in the house, playing up the smaller details like the mirrors and wallpaper in the bathroom.

Toned Down Privacy

Whereas the public spaces showcased loud and warm colors, the private spaces are toned down with soothing colors like green and blue, perfect for a bedroom.

Intimate Spaces

Try to create intimate spaces with cover-ups. Though you’ll want to expose all the windows and doors you can in such a lovely, sunny area, you’ll also want to the flexibility to cover them up. Here the designers used long drapes in this more intimate living area.

What’s your dream home?
