Modern Vignettes for Your Buffet and Sideboard

In these last few seasons, we have seen some gorgeous buffet and sideboards popping up in homes all over the world. Some are vintage or antiques, while some are designed by cutting-edge designers. It’s easy to say that we all have coveted them on Pinterest, magazines and blogs; sideboards complete a room. My favorite place to display a sideboard would be the dining room. Most dining rooms have at least one bare wall that the owner wonders what to do with. Sideboards and buffets are our solution! Now, the question remains, how do we style the top? Here are some ideas.

Some items to keep in mind while decorating the surface are ceramics, vases, books, succulents and candles. Above we see that the buffet is styled with items in the same color family. Size is very important too. You need to design with a variety of sizes to keep things interesting.

Magazines are great to use because of the simple white spines. Stack them and then place items on top. Also, finding unique items to display can add character and personality.

I love the variety of wood and ceramics seen above. And another detail to add is art. Stacked art looks very edited when layered on a surface.

Here’s another example of stacked art, vases, magazines and unique objects. The key to styling a buffet is to have fun and think outside of the box. If you feel like it is looking too eclectic, keep with the same color palette for a put-together approach.

Do you own a buffet or sideboard? Have you had trouble styling it?
