Deck the Yard: 4 Holiday Looks That Outshine Boughs of Holly

When it comes to winter holiday decor, there always seems to be a plethora of ideas for indoor spaces—everything from how to hang stockings to holiday tabletop inspiration. I’m sure you’ve already gleaned plenty of great ideas for holiday decorating from our posts here on The Interior Collective, but what about outdoors? Let’s take a look at some of my favorite outdoor holiday decorating ideas.

Wreaths

My personal style leans toward modern decor, which is why I’m attracted to this wreath made of ornaments (above). However, the real inspiration here is that it’s not hung on a door or window (one of its expected locations). Like the giant wreath that hangs above my garage door, this is hung on an exterior wall and looks great. Choose to make it out of ornaments, greenery, or antlers to suit your personal style.

Lights and Garland

Holiday décor always looks more festive when you include lights. But let’s face it, sometimes there is such a thing as too much. Avoid blinding the surrounding neighborhood with tons of outdoor lighting by placing strands of lights inside outdoor lanterns. This solution brings light in a new way and can be adapted to any decorating style as well. Plus, when you mix in greenery like is shown above, it pulls it all together.

Woodsy Planters

This red planter is completely in season. With its added details of split logs, greenery, and pinecones, it declares that winter has arrived in style. This is the kind of outdoor décor that can stay out long after the holiday season has ended.

Luminaries

My personal favorite outdoor holiday decorating idea is the use of luminaries. There’s a practicality to having these lights adorn your home during the season. They not only provide decoration, but can also outline your walkway or even the drive.

What kinds of outdoor décor do you plan to try this holiday season?
