3 Plant Types To Green A Modern Home

In interior design, plants tend to be one of the final touches added to a space—but definitely not the least important. As humans, we have an innate attraction to nature. So plants used thoughtfully in interior design can make us happy, more productive, less anxious, and more creative.

But how do you add plants to a modern design without adding a level of difficulty for less-experienced plant parents? Enter succulents, air plants, and cacti. These low-maintenance greens add just the right touch of nature while maintaining a sleek, contemporary look. Here are some of our favorites:

SUCCULENTS

With thick leaves that feature white flecks and serrated edges, this stemless succulent is a big burst of green in a space, growing up to 40 in tall. Plus, Aloe Vera is also a medicinal plant, producing aloe, a hydrating, moisturizing product that treats sunburn.

An evergreen perennial succulent, Echeveria Derenbergii (also known as the Painted Lady) forms small rosettes of pagoda-shaped fleshy leaves that are often edged with pink or maroon.

A succulent member of the daily family, Senecio Serpens is characterized by the powdery blue-green fleshy leaves that give it its more common name, Blue Chalksticks. In extreme heat or sun exposure, they can take on purple tints.

AIR PLANTS

Air plants are ideal for light and airy interiors. Not requiring only bright light and occasional misting to grow, Air Plants aren’t planted in soil. They can be hung almost anywhere with no worry of lose soil falling dusting the surface below.
