JWT Associates is a residential architecture firm in Los Angeles that specialize in assisting clients create their California dream homes. The firm has worked on renovations and additions to many architecturally significant homes in the region, and their goal is to seamlessly integrate the old with the new, respecting the beauty of the original design while updating the home to suit a modern lifestyle. Above we see a remodel of a 1930s bungalow in Westwood. While the kitchen retains the vintage charms of the 30s design, an updated interior is perfect for the 21st century chef. Let’s take a closer look.
You’d never know it from the photos, but JWT actually moved the entire kitchen to the former dining area for an open and airy feel throughout the home. The moulding on the cabinets and built-ins, not to mention that pretty white tile backsplash, scream vintage but the stainless steel appliances (with funky red knobs), modern hanging lamps, and kitchen island topped with Pebble counters by Caesarstone and featuring a built-in sink are contemporary.
This island, though! It’s not often we see Caesarstone counters on a rustic wood base, especially one with a built-in wine fridge and microwave. A truly an amazing job on this project.
JWT went for a playful color scheme in this family home. The baby blue cabinetry is complemented by Pebble countertops, which also tie in the steel fridge and other appliances. The palette was inspired by traditional Shaker interiors spiced up with a bold backsplash and navy chair stools. But the best part is right behind you.
A beautiful light-filled breakfast nook with custom cushions, build in shelves and a view. If this doesn’t make you want to pack up and head west, we don’t know what will.
