I am a huge advocate for families sitting down and eating meals together. It’s been proven to bring families closer together, and it creates memorable moments with children and parents. As a designer, planning dining rooms is one of my favorite pastimes. In addition to that, using round tables is also a favorite design placement of mine. Round tables allow for some fantastic conversations. You always feel close to every single individual sitting down as opposed to feeling a little separated from the group when sitting at a rectangular table.
Surrounded by a very serene and beautiful space, the Saarinen table (above) shines bright. This design can be used for both intimate dinners and entertaining at parties.
Wooden Round Table
I can only imagine what fun game nights, morning breakfasts and afternoon homework sessions take place at this table. I also love the eclectic mix of wood and plastic between the chairs and the table.
Rustic Round Table

This rustic, chic eating area feels sophisticated yet whimsical. The great thing about this particular table is that you can add leaves to enlarge it or you can keep it small and simple.
If you aren’t completely sold on a round table, try an oblong shape. It can be the best of both worlds. Oblong tables can stretch out longer than round. A tip to consider is matching them with square shaped chairs to compliment and not take away from the round curves.
Have you ever considered using a round table in your dining area or breakfast nook?
