Wattles Mansion Showcase

by ·

Today, we explore a piece of Hollywood history and the 2017 Designer Showcase– a classic 1908 Mission estate revived for today’s contemporary lifestyle.

This home originally belonged to famous financier Gurdon Wattles who invested in early Hollywood ventures and now serves as a platform for showcasing the latest in interior design. We’re excited to take you on a journey of past and present Hollywood influence and the only remaining example of a pre-film industry Hollywood estate.

We start on the patio, a lush green entryway with original arched windows and doors typical of Mission style estates. The open, covered space is perfect for hosting!

Next, we work our way into the living room, a kaleidoscope of color, texture, and rich accents honoring the history of the home and Hollywood roots. The little surprises throughout give this space a unique feel: from the monochromatic tree in the corner to the painted ceiling to the abstract imaginations decorating the wall!

Blending modern artistry with classic, rich paintings creates a beautiful gallery wall!

Any estate worth their weight will have multiple living rooms and seating areas. With so much design inspiration, we’re happy to journey through them all! Old meets new is the motto of the day in this extraordinary home.

Hollywood glamor is alive and well throughout this space! The beautiful woodwork, gilded accents, and filigree painted ceiling ooze early 1900’s handiwork and vision.

Miss Scarlet did it, in the conservatory with a candlestick! Well, in a conservatory like this, it’s no wonder Miss Scarlet is drawn to the space. From the carefully curated topiaries to the wild stretching ferns, this design perfectly complements the room’s existing aesthetic.

The kitchen carries the same checkered floor as the conservatory with whispers of its past in the stove and icebox (yes, that gorgeous storage unit in the back room is actually the refrigerator's early ancestor).

All of our wallpaper wishes have come true in this bar design. How could you go wrong with golden tigers? The beautiful turquoise, eye-catching golden accents, and Vanilla Noir countertops make this a Hollywood hit!

The design is in the details – even the sink basin is textured to perfection!

Walls and ceilings are the stars at Wattles’ estate. Cross beamed ceilings have long been our favorite and when combined with velvet walls, the dining room transforms into a star!

We finish this year’s showcase house with the views, a luxurious oasis of picture-perfect greenery and architecture.

Thanks to Jaime Rummerfield and Ron Woodson, a few of the many the talented designers of this estate.

If you want to see the vast estate for yourself, you’re in luck! The house will be on display until April 16th. Tickets may be purchased via the following link: wattlesshowcase.com and are also available at the door. Wattles Mansion is located at 1824 N Curson Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046. This year’s showcase house will benefit three charities: No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA), Save Iconic Architecture Projects (SIA) and Los Angeles Parks Foundation.
