Bring the Outside In: The Beauty of Butterflies

by ·

With spring just around the corner, I can’t help but think of blossoms, sunshine, and simply spending more time outside. Luckily, I need not wait for warm temps to enjoy the beauty of outdoors. With so many options in home décor, from the seaside to fields of wildflowers, I can pick just about any natural motif and bring the beauty of the outside in!

A particularly cheery selection includes the butterfly. There’s just something about these delicate creatures that seems to brighten any space. Butterfly patterns can be both whimsical and sophisticated. Over the years, I’ve discovered some designs that meet both criteria. Who knew butterflies could be so chic?

Papillion by The Rug Company

I simply love the oversized butterfly of the Papillion rug designed by Tara Bernerd. When first spotted in the home of Tabitha Simmons (below), I immediately added the rug to my ‘must-have’ list. It is completely handmade featuring a silk, hand-knotted butterfly against a natural wool background and comes in an array of sizes.

Birds and Butterflies by Schumacher

This lively print is available as both a wallcovering and fabric from luxe textile company Schumacher. It’s based on a hand-printed design from the early 60's and features butterflies mingling with birds among black and white foliage. Either a touch or floor-to-ceiling application like this New York loft will deliver an elegant reminder of the outdoors.

Butterfly Parade by Christian Lacroix Maison

Design house Christian Lacroix recently teamed with Portuguese brand Vista Alegre to produce a collection of porcelain tableware. Launched earlier this year, the collection offers four themes including the whimsical Butterfly Parade. Each piece is finished with gold and platinum. When paired with black and white stripes, your tabletop will be perfectly on trend.

I personally would love a set of Lacroix’s teacups.
