Dressers, Armoires, and Wardrobes, Oh My

I’ve just moved into a new home recently, and my family and I left behind all of our storage systems at the old house. Goodbye, freestanding closet, oh ye of many drawers and dividers! Goodbye, trio of dressers, anchored to the wall all in a row! Hello, mountains of boxes filled with goods that have nowhere to go.

So yes, storage has been on my mind lately.

Welcome Home!

I love the idea of a gorgeous dresser in an entryway. It could store hats, gloves, sunglasses, keys, and so on. All of those things that get trucked in and out of the house on a daily basis need somewhere to go, right? If you’ve got the space, a dresser is the perfect solution there.

An armoire, wardrobe, or tall dresser with doors and drawers are all good candidates for storage needs beyond just clothing. Photos, DVDs or CDs, board games and puzzles, and stacks of old magazines (please tell me I’m not the only one to hoard these) can all find new homes just beyond glass or wooden doors.

Of course, sometimes you just need something pretty in the room. The storage is a bonus, but let’s be real. It’s all about looks on occasions, and that’s quite all right. Who says a dresser so good-looking has to be relegated to just the bedroom?

I always fall in love with storied old pieces of furniture, far more often than I have need for them.

Have you found any creative spots or uses for dressers, armoires, and wardrobes in your home?
