If you are not willing to get rid of all of your upper cabinets, just add a few open shelves in a strategic place. One suggested area is on the side of either the sink or oven. If you choose the sink, display your dishware and try to stay with one color. It becomes both practical and pretty.
Kitchen islands not only provide extra counter space but added storage as well. If you have the blessing of an island or even a pantry, then have some fun and go for all open shelves. If you want to display some practical items, use glass or ceramic storage jars to hold food items.
