How to Liven Up a Kitchen: Patterned Rugs

Who says kitchens have to be boring? I believe a kitchen should be a place where you love to hang out. My husband and I live in a rental with a very plain kitchen. If we ever buy this home, we plan to redo the kitchen ASAP. In the meantime, one detail that helps liven up any kitchen is a patterned rug. It gives added color and dimension to the space.

White kitchens are appealing to most people, but not everyone desires bright white. If you want to add color to your white kitchen, find a vibrant, patterned rug. Choose colors that you absolutely love so that you don’t become tired of them.
For those of you who have an eating space right off the kitchen, choose a patterned rug that can tie the two rooms together. Play off of the colors of the cabinets and lighting. You can also choose ceramics and dishware with colors that match the rug.

Maybe a colorful, bold rug isn’t your thing. For a minimalist look choose a neutral rug with simple patterns. This will create texture in the kitchen without overpowering it.
Stripes are a classic choice that never go out of style. Black and white stripes can be matched with any kitchen cabinet, floor or countertop. This really is a timeless pattern that can pull a space together.
