Memorial Day Inspired Cocktial Recipe
With Memorial Day coming in a few days, people across the United States are preparing to celebrate. Created as a day of remembrance for those who died in service of our country, it has also become a day to spend with friends and family. It also marks the unofficial start of summer.
So while you spend the long weekend enjoying cookouts, or the annual family softball game, you may take a moment for a cocktail.
Wondering what drink will perfectly compliment the occasion? Something classic, summery, and effervescent? We recommend making a Tom Collins.
First recorded in 1876 edition of The Bar-Tender’s Guide—a seminal work in American mixology—the Tom Collins is a gin drink made with lemon juice, sugar and soda water. Like Memorial Day itself, the Tom Collins is an American classic. It’s an airy, slightly sweet cocktail, perfect for ringing in the summer months.
Courtesy of Drinks Mixer, here is what you’ll need to make the quintessential summer cocktail:
• 2 oz gin
• 1 oz lemon juice
• 1 tsp superfine sugar
• 3 oz club soda
• 1 maraschino cherry
• 1 slice orange
In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, lemon juice, and sugar. Shake well. Pour over ice in a collins glass. Add the club soda and stir. Garnish with the cherry and orange slice, and serve.
A well-made Tom Collins is a perfect addition to a Memorial Day weekend spent with friends and family. Please enjoy responsibly, and have a Happy Memorial Day!
