Hotel to Home: Modern Inspiration from Austin’s Kimber Hotel
I’ve posted here before about the joys of being inspired by travels—especially by the great design ideas you can get from top hotels around the globe. Today it’s time to travel to my favorite US destination: Austin, Texas, and to learn from the modern design and décor mastery on display at the Kimber Modern Hotel.
White Done Right
If you’ve followed my posts, you may already know that I’m not typically a fan of interiors utilizing a lot of white—in fact, I much prefer the dark side (link to https://interiorcollective.com/personality/the-dark-side-3-ways-to-introduce-dark-paint-to-your-space). Kimber Modern gives us white floors with plenty of visual interest through use of textured tiles; and the white walls are a perfect showcase for art, colorful furnishings, and custom wood accents.
Modern Classics
You cannot go wrong emulating Kimber Modern’s selection of furniture and fixtures. The impeccable taste seen throughout the boutique hotel converges on the common area, where the Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair sits alongside the Eames Wire Base Elliptical Table and the Sapien Bookcase. There’s no substitute for choosing great pieces for your space.
Accentuate the Positive
Another terrific look to bring home from the Kimber Modern is this tile, glass and wood combination. Using great materials like this in a very simple way has great impact—elevating a standard mini-fridge and desk set-up into something truly special. Having the tile wall as a backdrop puts it in a league of its own.
Edit to Essentials
The final component to bringing the best of Kimber Modern’s style to your home is to pare down on “stuff”. No matter what space you’re working in, the essence of modern mastery is to focus on only the essential items you need and want to display in your home.
